The time has finally arrived - after months in preparation and training the 2011 Grace Point Mission to Honduras Team is making the final steps to take off from PDX this Thursday night July 28 on the red eye to Houston to catch our flight to Tegucigalpa, Honduras. We arrive in Honduras in time to jump into the Micah Project (http://www.micahcentral.org/) street ministry late Friday afternoon including soccer with street kids, a message of God's love given by one of our team members, serving meals and washing the feet of homeless glue addicted street children, young adults and families.
Thus begins a week of ministry. Other plans for the nine days include possible site prep for Micah 2.0 on land now owned by Micah House near the community of Villa Linda Miller (http://www.micahcentral.org/VLM/VLMintro.htm) and away from the dangers and street violence surrounding the current Micah location. Additionally, members of our team will share the Good News of Jesus Christ in Vacation Bible School settings with groups of up to 200 children in various locations. Other possible projects include home construction for some Honduran families with deep ties to the Micah House. Also, accompanied by Honduran pastor Jeony Ordonez who ministers among the people of the dump (http://afehonduras.org/default.aspx), we will take clean drinking water and nutritious protein rich food to share as we spend time in the city dump among those who live there in squatter's homes eking out a living combing for anything of value to recycle to earn money to purchase food for the day. We will also spend time in the alleys off of the market place, a place that assaults one's senses, as we take food, water, and friendship in Jesus name to the population of homeless glue addicted young street boys. We will have already met many of these boys during our first night of ministry. Team members who traveled here last year will recognize many faces. The boys who now live at Micah and the young men who have come through the doors and matured into godly and productive young adults at Micah through the past 10-12 years were "once some of these" having come from these same streets and addictions. We so look forward to renewing our ties to the guys at the Micah House and spending time alongside them encouraging and being encouraged by them as we see the evidence of God's life changing power before us in their lives. As a returning team member I honestly don't think I could have returned to Honduras if I hadn't seen the grace and life changing power of God at work resulting in the beauty of the changed lives He has brought about in the midst of the enemy caused human wreckage and desperate misery we have and will see once again.
Please remember to pray for the following:
- Safe travel to, from and in country
- Unity among the team of 19
- Team flexibility (things ALWAYS change)
- Ability to navigate the language and cultural barriers
- Health
- That our actions will have no other motive than love (see 1 Corinthians 13)
Also - Included in this blog edition are several links to sites whose ministries we will be working alongside while in Honduras. I encourage you to go back at your leisure and navigate those sites and be encouraged by what you discover as you read the stories of hope and lives changed by Christ. Gloria a Dios (Glory to God).
